Family-Centred Approach

I see the individual within the context of their family unit and community.  I tailor therapy and my approach to meet the needs and to be supportive of the child’s family. I believe in a collaborative way of working with families and those in the child’s environment. I see myself as not an expert, but rather a member in the team, helping support an individual’s growth and development.

Incorporating Fun and the individual’s interests

It is known that people learn best when they are having fun. I strive to create a safe, connected and fun environment when working with individuals. I follow the child's lead  and like using  interests to make therapy relatable to their lives. I like using my creativity to think out-side the box to get engagement during sessions.

Strive to use Neurodiverse affirming practices

Acceptance and understanding that ALL brains and people are unique and this diversity is what makes our community whole. I aim to support the individual to reach their communications goals in a way that embraces and respects their unique differences. I am always learning and am constantly seeking knowledge from those with lived experience.

Having diversity within life, whether that is in our gardens, friendships, communities, ecosystems, soil communities creates the most productive and interactive systems. Within nature, “Diversity is nature’s way of building resilience and ensuring that all of its creatures have an abundance of what they require to keep them healthy and continue the cycle of life,(Marx, 2022). Like in nature, I see such value in placing worth in the diversity in us all.

Strength-based model

There are many models that are deficit based, putting a lot of energy and focus on the individual’s lack of something and what’s wrong. I use strength-based language. The language we use to talk about people matters. I see strengths as a way to help support and grow areas that someone may find more challenging.

Openness, Approachable and Friendly

Purple Flower

I offer services in a down-to-earth and honest way. I am relatable and approachable. I want families and individuals to feel comfortable in approaching me about things that are important to them, and working together collaboratively.

Nervous System Aware

Planting a Tree

Individuals who have differences with their communication and processing can often have experienced trauma from being in a world that may not  understand or cater for their needs.

I am constantly upskilling and keeping myself informed on how I can best work in a trauma-informed way.
